Chairman of the Security Council visits Darfur

Khartoum 15/04/2018 – A team of UN Security Council experts began a visit to Khartoum , lead by the head of the sanctions committee formed under the Security Council resolution (1591) on Darfur, as well as delegates from some of the Member States of the Council in order to stand on the situation in Darfur.

The Sudanese Media Center reported on a diplomatic source, the Chairperson of the Committee Joanna Dorinka, expressed her happiness to visit Darfur witnessing security and stability, and noted that stability further strengthened after the implementation of the disarmament campaign, confirmed that they have taken in to consideration the  recommendations of the Security Council to support the positive development, so as to reconsider the decision of the Special Procedures (1591) based on the light of those transformations.

It is noteworthy that the Chairman of the Committee began its meeting with Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry, Acting Ambassador Omar Siddig, also met with the National Coordination Center under article (1591) headed by Ambassador Hassan Hamid. The Chairman of the Committee will meet with various Ministries and Institutions, including a field visit to Darfur.
